Security of Supply

The Trans Adriatic Pipeline is a logical element in the value chain, connecting existing and planned grids for natural gas transport in Southeast Europe with gas systems in Western Europe via Italy, the Adriatic Sea and Albania. The pipeline will therefore give Europe better access to the major reserves of natural gas located in the Caspian region and beyond. It will also play an important part in securing natural gas supplies to Italy.

The pipeline project design  also includes physical reverse flow possibility and the option to develop natural gas storage facilities in Albania, which in turn would further contribute to increasing the security of supply in Europe.

TAP's route from Greece through Albania is strategically important for South Eastern Europe, by providing a new energy supply option they urgently need and making a considerable contribution to the region's economic development and political stability.
