TAP's development timeline

In this edition of the TAP newsletter, we include a timeline of the important milestones already reached and those still to come for both the project itself and the giant Shah Deniz gas field offshore Azerbaijan.
In the next 12 months or so, achieving these milestones will be key to opening up the Southern Gas Corridor and contributing to European energy security by ensuring that gas from Azerbaijan reaches Europe.
This year has already seen the reaching of one important milestone when the Shah Deniz Consortium chose TAP as its preferred option for the Southern Route which would take its gas to Italy. Still to be decided in June of this year is which Northern route the Shah Deniz Consortium prefers – Nabucco West or the South East European Pipeline (SEEP).

Following this selection, the Shah Deniz Consortium will work with both ‘semi-finalist’ projects to help develop them further until the final decision is made on which pipeline project will transport Shah Deniz II gas. This decision is due to be made in June 2013.
In addition, the Shah Deniz Consortium has entered its Front End Engineering Design phase, proving that Stage 2 of Shah Deniz, one of the largest gas developments anywhere in the world, is well and truly on its way to produce first gas by 2017/2018.
Given that TAP is the most commercially viable and strategic of the Southern Gas Corridor’s projects, we are confident that it offers the most cost efficient and strategic route for transporting Caspian gas to Europe.
