Health, Safety and Environment (HSE)
|
TAP project is aware of its responsibilities and duties towards its shareholders and stakeholders. TAP is committed to the internationally recognized health, safety and environmental standards and to the use of best practice.
TAP AG HSE Policy was approved by the management of the project in February, 2009. It applies to all activities of TAP from conceptual design to operations; its principles apply to all personnel working for TAP, whether as employees, contractors or suppliers.
MAIN HSE PRINCIPLES FOR TAP
HSE is a common responsibility
• All personnel acting on behalf of TAP are responsible for ensuring that the HSE policy and principles are understood and implemented at all levels of the organisation. Managers will be held accountable for HSE performance.
Compliance with laws and regulations
• We comply with national laws and regulations and we also respect relevant international laws, regulations and conventions.
HSE risk management
• We work systematically to understand and manage risk and undertake improvement processes based on surveys and risk assessments. HSE hazards and impacts will be identified and related risks will be reduced to As Low As Reasonably Practicable (the ALARP principle).
Safety first
• Safety comes first. Facilities and operations will be developed, planned and maintained such that robust barriers are in place to prevent accidents. All employees have the duty to stop any works if adequate systems to control risks are not in place.
Respect for the environment and society
• Environmental protection is a priority throughout all levels of the TAP AG organisation. We seek to maintain biodiversity and key ecosystem functions and values, conserve landscape and cultural heritage, limit land use and reinstate areas used. We will minimize generation of waste and preserve freshwater.
• We have an open dialogue with society and we consult and cooperate with relevant stakeholders striving for solutions acceptable to all affected parties. We evaluate measures to enhance positive effects to environment and society.
Corporate social responsibility
• We take our responsibility seriously. We say what we do and we do what we say.
Our aim is to be transparent, operate to high ethical standards and to contribute to sustainable development.
Attitude towards personnel
• The health and well being of personnel is important for TAP AG. We monitor occupational risks of personnel and take appropriate actions. We aim for a safe and attractive working environment characterised by respect, trust and cooperation.
• All personnel will have necessary qualifications and training for their tasks. Training needs will be evaluated regularly and relevant training programs established.
Contractors and suppliers
• HSE management of contractors and suppliers shall act in line with this policy. We assist contractors in following these HSE principles.
HSE performance improvement - incident investigation, audits and inspections
• We want to learn from mistakes and make sure they do not happen again. All individuals, whether contractor or staff, shall therefore report all incidents and near misses. Incident will be investigated to identify actions to be taken to prevent their recurrence. Regular audits will be conducted to verify implementation of the HSE policy.
Emergency response
• We have systems and trained personnel for emergency response in place for our activities. Should an accident occur, our emergency preparedness routines and resources will be available to limit the consequences and restore safe operations.
